How to join the City Library

The City Library has a huge range of great resources that can help you learn English. This includes ESL readers and grammar textbooks to DVDs, music, graphic novels and computer games, as well as e-resources, including e-books, magazines, newspapers and streaming services.

So, how do you join? I’m going to take you through the process step by step.
- Go to the City Library memberships page here
- Scroll down and click on Join Online.

3. Choose the first option Become a library member. You will be able to borrow physical items from the library, such as books CDs, DVDs, computer games, as well as get access to online resources.

4. Click ‘I accept’ to continue to the registration form.
5. Fill in the form.

6. It is a good idea to fill out the Contact details section of the form because the library will send important information by email and text message.

7. Don’t fill out the Guarantor details section unless you are under 18.
8. When everything is filled out correctly, click on Continue.
9. Success! You have registered. You will see a temporary borrower ID on the screen.

10. Take a note and/or screenshot of this number.
11. When you get an opportunity, go into the City Library at 253 Flinders Lane, a 1-minute walk from Discover English.
12. Important: Bring with you:
a. your temporary borrower ID number from step 9 above,
b. some photo identification, and
c. a document with your current Australian address on it.
13. Ask a librarian to help you to get your library card.
