The 10 most beautiful words in English

Every time people learn a new word in another language, they try to use it as much as they can. English is a beautiful language and as every other language it has plenty words, it is estimated total of 750,000. Not even native speakers know all of them, so don’t feel bad if you do not know them either. As an English student the process could be different, but it could be also more exciting because when people are learning a new language, every word they know for the first time is a step to improve and cause of pride for all.

It is not easy to choose from so many beautiful words, but this could be a beginning. After a conversation with native and non-native speakers, here there are a top ten of the most beautiful words in English.

1. Ailurophile: A cat-lover.

 Ann isn’t a dog person but an ailurophile whose heart sings when she hears a cat meow. 

2. Bumblebee: A large hairy social bee which flies with a loud hum, living in small colonies in holes underground.

The bumblebee sizzled right under his straw hat.

3. Ephemeral: lasting for a very short time.

4. Discombobulate: to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate.

The cat was discombobulated until it learned its way around the new house.

5. Ineffable: too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words.

When Jake saw his fiancée walking down the church aisle, he experienced an ineffable feeling.

6. Lissom: (referring to body type) thin, supple, and graceful.

Looking at your lissom dance, I smile knowingly—and so sweet

7. Phenomenal: Remarkable or exceptional, especially exceptionally good. Perceptible by the senses or through immediate experience.

After seeing the play, the critics praised the young actress on her phenomenal talent

8. Shawty or shorty: A person who is shorter than average (often used as a nickname). (slang) Mostly used to refer to a young and attractive woman. It is in some cases used as a nickname for a woman.

Shorties like us don’t have to worry about hitting our heads where others need to be careful. 

9. Serendipity: Finding something nice while looking for something else. The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

It was only through pure serendipity that I met my best friend!

10. Vestigial: Forming a very small remnant of something that was once greater or more noticeable.

The aurora that once healed his darkness is now just a vestigial ember.
