Over a decade of experience in the international education sector, working both domestically and overseas, has prepared Joanna well for the challenges that Discover English provides. Jo brings a combination of enthusiasm, empathy and passion to her role at Discover English, which stems from her personal experience immigrating to Australia to study in 2003.Her short visit to Melbourne over 10 years ago turned into a life changing experience and Jo has lived here ever since. Jo loves the relaxed lifestyle that Australia has to offer and she has made many international friends over the years.Completing her masters in Marketing & Management has given Jo a high degree of insight into the business of education. Jo is an open and friendly communicator and enjoys helping students reach their full potential during their time at Discover English.Jo is a bit of a workaholic and feels very proud to be part of an amazing team here at Discover English!
Born in England, Cameron moved out to Australia when he was 7 years old. Having dual-citizenship, and thus not likely to become the Prime Minister in the near future, after university he travelled back and forth to Europe for a while before falling in love with teaching and moving to Madrid in 2000. He returned to Australia in 2003 and began teaching in Melbourne, where he taught all levels, all class types, including FCE, CAE and EAP, before doing the International Diploma in Language Teaching Management and becoming a Director of Studies. Since then he has worked in both the university and private language school sector, and he embraces the challenges that management brings. He also has a thorough knowledge of the IELTS exam, having had a lot of involvement with it in the past. Cam's a keen cyclist, so he rides to work every day. rain hail or shine. He probably gets more exercise, though, chasing after his two young children.
Melbourne born and bred, Tristan did his CELTA in 2008 and got his first teaching gig in Prague, Czech Republic, after deciding Journalism wasn't for him. He has since taught in Sydney, Palestine, Nauru and Colombia, before settling back in Melbourne. In that time, he also found a couple of years to spend doing menial work in Manchester, which more or less paid for his football tickets. Tristan spent a large chunk of his teaching career at La Universidad Externado in Bogota, Colombia, during which time he also did his DELTA, covered craft beer and hip hop for the local paper, and coordinated the Elementary level at the university. He was Academic Manager at another big Melbourne school before moving to Discover in mid 2022.
Tristan is a diehard fan of Essendon, Everton and Deportes Tolima, which, apart from the Colombian experience, hasn't been much fun for him at all.
Brian is originally from Taiwan and has studied in Taiwan, China and Australia. He has been working in the education industry since 2005, in both education agency and schools. His favourite part of the job is to talk with students from diverse cultural background and assist them to achieve their goals.His favourite quote: “in order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure”.
Moe visited Australia at first time as an exchange student in 2008 which was a life-changing experience to her. After three years working experience in Japan and one year working holiday in Ireland she came back to Australia.As an international student, working holiday maker and education agent, Moe can fully understand the student and is keen to help them at any time.Moe is looking forward to seeing you all at Discover English.
Miki is from
Japan and came to Melbourne for the first time to study
English in 2016 just like many students at Discover
English. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Japan,
she came back to Melbourne in 2019. Miki
understands international students' needs from her own
experience. As someone who has learned English as a
second language, Miki knows firsthand the challenges
and joys of the language-learning journey and is always

Germano is from Brazil and studied in Brazil, USA, Argentina, Canada and Australia. He has over 15 years experience in the international education sector, working with the onshore and offshore market.
Completing his MBA has given Germano the perfect skills for the Marketing Manager position. He is currently finishing his Masters in Marketing at RMIT and speaks English, Portuguese, Spanish, and a little bit of French. Germano keeps the excellent relationship that Discover English already has with its students, agents and pathway provider partners.
Junka has worked in the English education industry since 2004 with experience in both Australia and Japan. Having grown up in Japan, and with English as her second language, Junka understands the hopes and needs of international students studying away from home. Her experience working abroad and with learning another language helps her to understand students and to be able to assist them more readilyJunka adopted Melbourne as her home in 2006 and is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge with Discover English students and assisting them in any way. She believes that the extra student support services at Discover English will truly benefit the student and ensure they discover all that Melbourne has to offer.
Like many students at Discover English, Mina came to Australia on a working holiday visa in 2007. She studied English for six months in Melbourne and then continuted her study in social work. She has attained a Bachelor of Social Work in Japan and a Master of Social Work in Melbourne.From her experience, as an international student, she understands the difficulty of living overseas without family and friends, not to mention studying and using a different language. Mina is continuing to expand her language skills and is currently studying Korean.Mina has a natural sense of caring for others and helping people in need. It is her job to assist students with their administrative needs, to help resolve problems and to build good rapport with our diverse student body.
Ploy is from Thailand. After completing her Bachelor of IT (MIS) and working as a Public Affairs Agent in Thailand, she made a big step in her life and planned her further study abroad. She first came to Australia in 2012 as an international student in sight of a new experience and to improve her English language skills.Ploy studied at Discover English and then completed her Master of Accounting in Melbourne. She loves living in Melbourne where she has found a second home.Her journey and experiences in Australia, such as living abroad by herself with all its difficulties, made her really understand international students' needs, encouraging her to help them go through this experience. She also enjoys socialising and sharing fun stories with students.Ask her anything, she will help you find out!
Chiara is from Italy and she has lived in Barcelona, Spain for 6 years. After finishing her Master's degree in Global Marketing, she then moved to Melbourne to experience a different lifestyle. She has experience working in the International Education industry and is keen to help students. Come and say Hi to Chiara at Reception.
Deedee is from Thailand and can speak three languages- Thai, English, and Cantonese. Back in 2017, she came to Melbourne to study English just like many of you at Discover English. Since then, she has been obsessed with working in the international education industry, and she has worked for an Education Agency in Thailand as well as a Vocational school in Melbourne. Pla is from
Thailand. After she completed her bachelor's degree in
International Business Management and worked as a
compliance logistics specialist in Thailand, she decided
to come to Australia in 2019 to improve her English at
Discover English for 9 months. She then pursued a 1
-year diploma in Social Media Marketing. Additionally,
she aspired to gain new skills, qualifying as a
patisserie chef in Melbourne as well. Pla aims to share
her experiences of studying and living abroad by
herself with international students, helping them go

Having graduated from university with a degree in Communications (Public Relations), Mark first developed a taste for ESL teaching when he left Australia in 1994 to spend a year teaching in Chong Ju, South Korea. On his return to Australia, he was offered a position within the foundation programme of a regional university and subsequently transferred to its international campus in Sydney. After moving to a private college, he was offered a position managing an ESL college in Far North Queensland. After three years in tropical Cairns, Mark moved back to Melbourne and returned to his first love, teaching.
In 2006, wanderlust struck again and Mark relocated to Osaka, Japan, where he remained teaching specialised programmes until 2013. Now back in his beloved Melbourne, Mark is proud to be a member of the Discover English team and truly enjoys coming to work each day. Mark loves grammar and has a passion for teaching within exam preparation programmes, especially Cambridge courses.
From Melbourne, Steve has been teaching in the ESL industry for more than 15 years. His experience crosses continents, having taught in Japan for 3 years and Melbourne for more than 10. Teaching a variety of nationalities and assisting people from different cultures has been a motivating factor in Steve's commitment to English teaching.
Lucy started teaching at Discover English in September 2018, after completing her CELTA. Born and raised in Melbourne, she has always enjoyed learning about language and meaning.After finishing high school, a short stint as a Teaching Assistant at a primary school in Buenos Aires, Argentina, opened Lucy's eyes to the joys of both the Spanish language and working as a language teacher. She then completed a Bachelor of Arts in History and Spanish at the University of Melbourne.
Lucy teaches General English and loves meeting students from all over the world. Her favourite part about her job is seeing students helping each other and learning together.
Catherine grew up in tropical Cairns, Queensland, but has called Melbourne home since 2014. She knew at quite a young age that she wanted to be an English teacher, completing a bachelor of arts majoring in Language Teaching and Spanish and starting out in the Australian ELICOS industry in 2010. Since then she has gained extensive experience teaching at private language schools in south-east Queensland and teaching and coordinating university pathway programs here in Melbourne. Catherine recently completed a traineeship in leadership and camp management in the USA, where she has spent many northern hemisphere summers working at a traditional girls’ summer camp as a unit head, counselor, lifeguard, and swim instructor. Over the past 13 years, Catherine has also taught English in Spain, Guatemala, Honduras and Nepal, and has lived, studied, or travelled in every continent except Antarctica (but it’s on her list!). As a result, Catherine can relate to many of the challenges that our international students face and overcome, and she considers it a privilege to witness their growth and their many triumphs along the way.
Born and raised in Melbourne, and having completed both a CELTA and Professional TESOL Diploma, Sean brings to the classroom thirteen years’ English-teaching experience, a genuine and lifelong passion for language, for teaching, and for serving others. He also has around seven years’ experience learning languages other than English, including French, Russian, and Georgian. Having done so, and having lived and worked in a number of non-English-speaking countries, Sean understands the unique challenges his students face.
Sean possesses a keen attention to detail, a strong intellect, and the desire to go above and beyond, in order to assist his students. Indeed, he's not afraid to take the mickey out of himself in the classroom, nor to let his own brand of eccentricity shine forth, in order to illustrate or communicate something important!
Sean encourages his students to learn independently outside the classroom, whilst assisting one another inside the classroom. He particularly loves seeing how students grow, as people, as they develop their language skills.
Loan holds a PhD in English Language Studies, an MA in TESOL and a BA in English Language
Teaching from Thailand, Australia and Vietnam, respectively. Recently, she completed her
Diploma in Training Design and Development and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
to teach students in the Vocational Education and Training sector in Australia. Before she
moved to Australia in October 2021, she was a university lecturer and a teacher educator in
a couple of countries in Asia for two decades. With her rich experience as an English
language learner, an international student, and then a teacher of English to multi-lingual
learners, Loan is happy to help international students at Discover English to learn English
effectively in a pleasant and supportive environment.
Hi my name is Steve, I’ve been working in education for the last 20 years as a principal in primary schools. Before moving into a school leadership position I was an English Language Teacher with refugee students as they first arrived in Australia. I was born and raised in Melbourne to migrant parents, my mother came from Egypt and my father from Sri Lanka which has given me a first hand appreciation of cultural and gastronomic diversity. I love teaching adults at Discover English and particularly enjoy hearing stories from my students about their experiences and adventures whilst in Australia.
Kerry was born in Los Angeles to British parents. He has over 8 years worth of experience as a teacher in a plethora of countries from Australia to the United States and Turkey to China. He has taught a wide age range of students from 4 years of age to adults as well as a breadth of subjects from English to History and Outdoor Education. He is a registered teacher in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. He is a dynamic, empathetic, and lively teacher who cares deeply for his students and their learning. During his free time he enjoys hiking, reading, and birding.
I was born in Denmark but I moved to Scotland at the age of 10. I graduated from St Andrew's University in Scotland in 2000 with a Masters in Modern languages (French, German and Spanish.) In 2010 I completed my Celta Certificate to become an English teacher.
I spent a year in Barcelona between 1998 and 1999 and understand some of the challenges and international student can face. I think it was one of the hardest and also best years of my life!
I've called Melbourne home since 2004 and married my husband, Jon, a Wonderful Melbournian, in 2005. Together we have two sons, Emil, 12 years old and Nils, 10 years old.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with Jon and our boys. We live in the beautiful Yarra Valley so there's always lots to do, explore, eat and wines to try!
I've been lucky to be part of the Discover English team since 2017. I think the best part of being an English teacher is meeting all our students from many different cultures and backgrounds and helping you with your English journey. I was that English student myself once and I'll always remember the people, who helped me learn English. Learning English changed my life. Whilst I'll always feel Danish, Australia is my home. Dan has been working at Discover English since June 2022. He was born in Australia but spent most of his childhood years overseas in Egypt and India. From this he developed a love for other cultures. After a few years at university this expanded to include a passion for language learning and teaching. Following university he did a CELTA and a graduate certificate in TESOL and is still in the process of teaching himself Chinese.
